The Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club Memorial Scholarship is open to Frederick County, Maryland high school seniors who will be attending college, trade school, or enlisting in the US military.
An applicant will have participated as a runner in cross country or track, or will have demonstrated support for running as a team trainer or as an assistant to the coaching staff. In addition to participation in/around the sport of running, the applicant will have a demonstrated history of volunteerism within their school, church, or community.
Applications will be accepted until 11:59 PM April 5, 2024.
Two $2500 scholarships are guaranteed to be awarded. Additional scholarships may be offered at the discretion of the Steeplechasers Memorial Scholarship Committee.
Each applicant will be required to complete the FSRC Memorial Scholarship application form (will be available when the application process is opened) containing:
- A short biography (attach to form)
- Three to five hundred word essay (attach to form) or 3-4 minute video
- Letter(s) of recommendation (have these sent to memorialscholarship@steeplechasers.org)

Essay or Video Submission
Write an essay or submit a video that is unique to the FSRC scholarship. The essay should be three to five hundred words. If you decide to submit a video, it should be 3-4 minutes in length. Please address the following questions:
- How has the sport of running impacted your life to date and how do you envision it impacting your future?
- How has volunteering in the community shaped the person you are today and the person you expect to become?
- Tell us a story about a time in your high school career where you exemplified exceptional character.
Your answers should help us get to know you. The scholarship is not awarded for fastest times or the number of state finishes. We are looking to see how running, volunteering, commitment to others and community, and perseverance are reflected in your life. Share a story reflecting about your high school career that exemplifies your character.
Letter(s) of Recommendation
We require a minimum of one letter of recommendation and a maximum of three. It would be advisable that these come from a coach or a recognized community leader.
It is preferable that the letter(s) of recommendation be sent electronically in PDF format to memorialscholarship@steeplechasers.org, directly from the person(s) making the recommendation. (Note: the biography and essay should be attached to the online scholarship application form)
