This week’s incredible member spotlight is on Josh Roane.

“You’ve seen me post random things from time to time, and you’ve seen my face at previous events, I am your Steeplechasers Club President.

Growing up in suburban Detroit, I never had any interest in anything faster than the slow walk around the neighborhood in my childhood. I dabbled in several sports in and out of school but nothing ever caught on.

Many years later after I moved to Frederick, it still took me several years to get introduced to the sport of running and even longer than that to realize how beneficial it would be to me and my family.

I have been a Steep for around 6-7 years, and it’s all gone by so fast. Throughout this time the club has brought so much into my life, from personal lifelong friends, to opening my eyes up to some local areas and special sights that I would never have seen otherwise.

One funny thing about my running is I always try to log a run in any places I travel to. I find it’s a cheap, easy way to see things in unfamiliar places. Sometimes you find little hidden treasures, sometimes you find the biggest hill in the town, but it’s all memorable.

I’ve been both a member and a coach of several of the FSRC training plans and through these groups I’ve been able to progress from a 5k to several half marathons, all the way up to my first 50k completion last year. I cannot stress enough how much the volunteers of the club have done for our community and the members of this club, and it makes me feel good to be part of the organization each day.”
