The week’s spotlight is on someone who has done a lot for the club behind the scenes and you have seen him zipping around town. This week’s spotlight is on Louis Schiavone.

“I haven’t been a lifelong runner, but I definitely hope to be a runner for the rest of my life. I got started with running halfway through college, initially to lose weight and get in shape, then I fell in love with the sport after completing my first 5K, which was the Frederick Turkey Trot in 2012. Something about that race-day atmosphere and the simplicity of a running race got me hooked.

So not knowing better at the time, I committed to running my first marathon before graduating college, and I completed the 2015 Rock N’ Roll DC Marathon as my first full marathon, in 40-degree rain the whole time. Since then, I’ve continued my road running “career,” which was taken to new heights when I joined the Steeplechasers in late 2016.

“Joining the Steeplechasers is what made me the runner I am today, and proved to me that running is not a “solo sport.”

I’ve made countless friends and training partners, while improving my running performance and holding a spot on the FSRC Racing Team since 2017. I’m proud to be a member of this club, which is a true asset to our runner-friendly town.

Currently, I help out with communications for the club. This includes press releases, blogs and email campaigns, as well as some website-related and social media content management tasks.

You can find me on the roads (I’m not a trail guy) around downtown, Ballenger Creek where I live, and other popular running spots in Frederick County. And on Strava, of course.”

We really do have the most diverse and amazing members! I would love to share your stories, accomplishments or anything else you would like to share, please send them to barb.meely@steeplechasers.org.
