We have some amazing high school Steeplechasers shattering school records and competing at the county, regional, and state levels! Read on to learn more about some of them and their noteworthy accomplishments.

Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association Track and Field outdoor spring season has wrapped up with many successes by our youth runners. Following a season of outdoor meets, athletes compete in Championships including County, Central Maryland Conference, Regional by Division and then State by Division. It’s a grueling race schedule, competing weekly and sometimes on back-to-back days. Congratulations to our youth for all of their accomplishments! Go STEEPS!

Kamsi Obuekwe/ 11th grade / Tuscarora High School 

Events: 1mile, 4×400, 4×800, 400m, 800m

Accomplishment: State Championship.

Adaeze Obuekwe/ 9th Grade / Tuscarora High

Events:  100m, 200m, 400m, 4×100, 4×200, 4×400

High School Frederick Steeplechasers: Gregory Vine

Gregory Vine / 10th Grade / Tuscarora High School

Events: 400, 4X400

Accomplishment: 56-second 400m!

High School Steeplechasers: Katherine Vine

Katherine Vine / 9th Grade / Tuscarora High School

Events: 4×100, 100M

Accomplishments: Qualifying to go to States as a Freshman!

High School Steeplechasers: David Tressler

David Tressler / 9th Grade / Oakdale High

Events: 4×800, 1600, 3200

Accomplishments: Finished 4th in Frederick County for 3200, breaking the school’s freshman 3200 record.

High School Steeplechasers: Jenna Conley

Jenna Conley / 10th Grade / Catoctin High School

Events: 800, 1600, 3200, 4×800, 4×400

Accomplishments: going to States and earning ribbons and PRs in all three events that she competed in (800, 1600, 3200).

High School Frederick Steeplechasers: Sofia Driver

Sofia Driver / 10th Grade / Frederick High School

Events: Distance medley relay, 1600, 3200

Accomplishments: PR’d in the mile at the CMC Championship Meet with a 5:58 result, after coming back from an injury lasting for most of the indoor season. Also, her distance medley relay team is currently ranked 3rd for the FHS school record and they are hoping to smash it next year!

High School Frederick Steeplechasers: Caroline Matthews

Caroline Matthews / 10th Grade / Boonsboro High School

Events: 1600, 3200

Accomplishments: Finished 3rd in Maryland Division 1A in 1600 and 1st in 3200.

High School Frederick Steeplechasers: Renee Washart

Renee Washart / 12th Grade / Middletown High School

Events: 4×800, 4X400

Accomplishments: Renee’s 4×400 team finished 2nd in states and the 4×800 team finished 7th.  This is while coming back from ACL surgery.

High School Frederick Steeplechasers: Elian Mundo Varley

Elian Mundo Varley / 9th Grade / Urbana High School

Events: 4×800, 1600

Accomplishment: PR’d in the mile at a home meet, the Urbana Quad Meet.
