***FSRC Grand Prix Event***
This is one of the Steeplechasers’ “low-key” races. You must be a club member on race day.
If you’re not a club member, you can join for only $20 at https://runsignup.com/fsrc. If you are renewing a membership, you can renew at https://runsignup.com/Club/SearchForRenew/668.
If you think you are a paid member of the club and you can’t register for free, please check the spelling of the name you used to join the club, using https://runsignup.com/Club/SearchForRenew/668. The system checks for a matching birth date, so please check your RunSignUp profile. If this still doesn’t offer the ability to register for the race for free, email membership@steeplechasers.org for assistance.
Registration: Entry fee for Steeplechaser members is a pie. Registration is open through race morning, but you must register online before coming to the race venue. We will not be holding on-site, in-person registration and cell service is poor at the race venue so you won’t be able to register from your phone when you arrive.
Course Description: The course is a paved beautiful but hilly country road out and back along the base of the Catoctin Mountains. Actual route: East on Mountaindale Road, north on Putnam Road, run up and down a series of small hills then run down a big hill, turn around where indicated and go back.
Prizes: The top men and ladies get their choice of pies while the rest of us choose in order of finish time.
Directions from Frederick: Take U.S. 15 North to the left on to Hansonville Rd. (by Mr. Natural’s) and make an immediate right onto Mountaindale Rd. Follow Mountaindale Rd. through the fish ponds and across Bethel Rd. until you come to an intersection where Putnam Rd. is on your right. Go left to stay on Mountaindale Rd. and proceed toward the entrance to the Frederick Watershed Area. Proceed to a gravel lot on the right hand side where you should see a display time clock and people dressed like runners carrying pies (not a common sight). Try to carpool – parking limited.
Disclaimer/Amenities: This is a low budget but fun event that we’ve done over and over again to fill-in gaps in the running schedule (“pie filler” Get it?). The race is adequately marked, measured, and timed, but there is minimal aid (one water station you pass twice with just water that could be self serve if no one shows up to help). There is no traffic control (but there’s very little traffic out there).
Portapotties at the start!
As always, everyone runs at their own risk (not a race for pre-teen children).
Come out, have a great run, and share some pie!
