Youth Running

Note: Many of the runs start at Talley Rec Center, in Frederick MD. From the corner of 2nd and Bentz, walk on 2nd St next to the rec center until you get just past it and see a bunch of people in running clothes, probably stretching.

Walk in the Park
Location: Talley Recreation Center at Baker Park

Let’s get together for a few encouraging words among friends. Talk about our struggles as “beginners” and encourage each other as embrace a healthier outlook on this world.

We are welcoming to all beginners, recovering runners and new friends. We will have guest speakers on topics such as nutrition, proper form and attire. Let’s find new partners in this journey.

Evening Group Runs
Locations: Talley Recreation Center at Baker Park, If the Shoe Fits 467 W Patrick St

Meeting Info:
Monday thru Wednesday nights meeting at 6:00 or 6:30 (see below) outside the entrance to the Talley Recreation Center off of 2nd Street. Just look for runners gathering there.

Thursday nights meeting at 6:30 at If the Shoe Fits

Runs normally 3-4 miles (or more) with short-cut options to accommodate all ability levels. Great way to meet and get to know other members. Just walk up and introduce yourself. Special training groups formed throughout the year for anything from 5K to Marathon level training.

Steeplechasers Sunday Morning Runs

Pace: 7:30 to 9:00 minutes per mile
Day/Time: Sundays at 7:00 a.m.
Distance: 8 miles
Location: Frederick High School
Comments: Rain or shine.

‘If the Shoe Fits’ Group

We are a diverse group of runners who enjoy running longer distances in all weather. We include experienced (older) runners and newer runners, who are looking to maintain and to increase mileage as well as returning runners.

Pace: paces vary from 9 to 10.5 minute miles

Location: Usually, but not always, at Baker Park by the gazebo; Sometimes from other locations to add variety. Specifics go out on Friday afternoons via email. Contact to get on the mailing list.

Day/Time: Saturdays. 7:00 AM is the common time, although many will start at 6:00 AM and build miles before returning to the park to meet 7am starters

Distance: There is usually someone running at least 10 miles. During peak training periods, runs are extended by starting earlier and or running longer. Some new and returning runners will turn back after starting with group and return to park.

Comments: People who run with us are those who don’t mind bathroom and H2O breaks, those who can tolerate nonsensical gibberish, good natured harassment and pushing through the character building miles, which are unique to each of us


Ultras / Trail Running
Mike O’s 5-D Trail Team

Sunday mornings normally in the Frederick Watershed, Gambrill Park or the C&O Canal.
Distance: Range is 8-18 miles.
Pace: Averages 10 to 11 minutes per mile on trails and 8 to 10 on the C&O Canal.

Youth Fall and Spring “Self Propel” Kid’s Running Programs

Ages: 8 – 14, September-October and April-May. Great way for kids of all abilities to “Learn to Love Running for a Lifetime”. Fall program is cross country oriented and is conducted in Baker Park while the Spring program is conducted from the Frederick High School track.
