Upcoming Community Races & Events

The Steeplechasers support dozens of local events by providing finish line services as well as course marshals.

You can see upcoming calls for volunteers in the Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club Facebook group, or contact raceservices@steeplechasers.org to volunteer.


FSRC Race Planning Committees and Race Day Support

In addition to supporting local races, the Steeplechasers plan and put on several local races for members and the general public, the proceeds of which often support local charities.

If you are interested in helping with a specific race, contact the race director at the email address provided below.

Committee Volunteer Opportunities

  • Promotion – develop and execute a PR strategy to promote the race
  • Registration – set up online registration system, handle mail-in and in-person registrations, prepare/distribute race bibs
  • Sponsor – develop and execute sponsorship strategy, solicit sponsors and obtain random prizes
  • Awards – purchase awards and oversee distribution
  • Premium – select, design, purchase, and distribute shirt provided to registrants
  • Race Day Services – prepare for and coordinate the activities on race day, including setup of start/finish lines, race day refreshments and on-course support including water stops and course marshalls
  • Timing – provide timing and results services
  • Medical – develop and execute safety and medical plan

Race-Day Support Volunteer Opportunities

  • Help with bib pickup and in-person registration
  • Provide medical support
  • Be a course marshal
  • Man a water stop
  • Help give out race refreshments
  • Work the finish line

Community Service Activities

Gettysburg Marathon Race Support (normally 4th Sunday in April)

In years when the Gettysburg Marathon is included in the FSRC Grand Prix Race Series, the Steeps host an aid station for the race.

  • Organizer: Jill Cameron
  • Volunteer Opportunities:
    • Deliver supplies to and man aid station
    • Aid with clean-up of aid station after race

Greenbrier Trail Work Day (October)

The Steeplechasers provide volunteer manpower to assist with trail maintenance at Greenbrier State Park.

  • Organizer: Bill Susa
  • Volunteer Opportunities:
    • Install waterbars and other erosion mitigation
    • Digging, picking rocks, moving tree limbs, etc.
    • Sturdy shoes and gloves are recommended
    • Bring lunch and water to eat out on the trail
    • Outing will last four to six hours

JFK 50 Mile – Mile 19 Aid Station (Saturday before Thanksgiving)

The Steeplechasers know how to run a fun and efficient aid station. In 2016 and 2017, our aid station at the JFK 50 Mile race won the Best Aid Station Award.10374451_10152616742238003_3791392423840428366_n

  • Organizer: Paul Christiansen
  • Volunteer Opportunities:
    • Bring food to augment the food supplied by JFK organizers
    • Prepare food for runners (cut up powerbars, bananas, etc.)
    • Replenish supplies to aid table
    • Refill runner water bottles
    • Cheer and encourage the runners
    • Support activity lasts four to five hours

Lincoln Panther Running Club

FSRC conducts an after-school running program at Lincoln Elementary School for 2nd through 5th graders. To get involved, contact lincoln-panthers@steeplechasers.org. 


Coaching & Pacing

The club runs several training programs for members across the year. Given the size and popularity of these programs, the club often needs coaches and volunteer pacers to support runners training for their events.
