Frederick County, Md., high school seniors can apply until April 15, 2023
The Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club is currently accepting applications for its annual Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is open to Frederick County, Md., high school seniors who will be attending college, trade school or enlisting in the U.S. military. Applications will be accepted until April 15, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.
The club guarantees it will award two scholarships of $2,500 each, with the possibility of additional awards at the discretion of the club’s scholarship committee. The Steeplechasers have awarded more than $54,000 in scholarships to 33 recipients since the inception of the memorial scholarship in 2016.
The Steeplechasers created the Memorial Scholarship in 2016 to preserve the memory of beloved club members Rick O’Donnell, Larry Key and John Godinet. These runners embodied the traits the Steeplechasers strive for and most admire such as character, perseverance, genuine kindness and a profound joy in sharing one’s love of running. The club seeks the same characteristics in its scholarship recipients.
The club’s memorial scholarship is funded from the proceeds of the annual Rick O’Donnell 5.22 Mile Trail Run and Ultra Challenge. The event, now in its 11th year, will take place on October 8, 2023.
