Lewis Memorial 10-Miler

January 22 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am

** FSRC GRAND PRIX EVENT **

** THE RACE HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO EXTREME COLD ON RACE MORNING. IF WE ARE ABLE TO RESCHEDULE, WE’LL COMMUNICATE THE NEW DATE **

Due to the current COVID-19 surge…

The cabin will only be used for functional purposes: check-in/pickup race bib, use of restrooms, compiling race results or getting refreshments (hoping to have coffee/cider/hot chocolate)
2. Any socializing before or after the race will need to be done outside. (bring warm, dry clothes if you wanna hang out)
3. The only food people need to bring is whatever you need to have for yourself. Any sharing will be done outside at your own risk.
4. Masks should be worn whenever you go inside the cabin and is recommended to be worn while socializing (it will keep your face warm)
5. Rather than waiting until the end for an award ceremony, awards will be given to anyone finishing within a minute of their predicted time. The ultimate winner will have their bragging rights announced on FB for all to see.!
We believe that we can still manage risk and have a good time because THAT’S THE KIND OF PEOPLE WE ARE!

This is a prediction race, so participants may not wear watches.  Leave ’em in your car, your gym bag or at home.  The winner is the runner who runs closest to their predicted time.

FSRC Grand Prix results will be based on actual finish time.

Where: Eastview Clubhouse on Oakmont Drive in Frederick

Why: Because you love the challenge of running wicked hills in freezing weather (it builds character)

Who: FSRC members. If you’re not a current member, it’s only $20 to join the club. Still a great deal for a 10-mile race, even if you don’t take advantage of the many other benefits of club membership. If you are a current member,  you may need to renew if your membership is due to expire before race day. If you need to renew or join the club, please go to https://runsignup.com/fsrc to join or https://runsignup.com/Club/SearchForRenew/668 to renew.  If you have questions about your membership, please send email to membership@steeplechasers.org.

How much: Free for Steeplechaser members.

Online Registration: Registration is online-only and is available through race morning.  But please preregister if you can to help save volunteer effort on race day.

What else: The Lewis Run is the early season race that we love to hate.   Prizes go to the closest predicted time and front runners receive our admiration and a hearty slap on the back.  The course is paved but REALLY HILLY!  In order to do awards in a timely fashion and get the volunteers out of the cold, there is a 2:30 time limit for this event.  That equates to a fairly generous 15 min/mile, but it’s not an event for walkers.

Breakfast:  Bring a food item to share.  (We run to eat, right?)

Directions:  From Rt. 40 (West Patrick Street in Frederick), turn onto Waverly Drive by the Frederick Town Mall.  Follow speed bumps to Shookstown Road.  Go left and begin to climb.  Watch for Lakeview Drive on the left, but don’t turn on it.  Make the next left onto Oakmont Drive (it’s hard to see). Go down a steep hill to a lake with a clubhouse on the left.  That’s it!

Registration: Please register online before showing up on race morning, or plan on registering from your phone at the race venue. We will not be doing in-person registration.

Questions: Contact Mark Lawrence, your low-key race director.  mark.lawrence@steeplechasers.org

Weather: It’s a winter race and parking can sometimes be an issue if there has been significant snow. Any announcements about possible cancellations due to weather will be made on the Frederick Steeplechasers Facebook Group.  Registered runners will be notified by email.

Parking: Carpool if you can – parking can get tight.
